OBITUARIES
St. Petersburg Times (FL) - February 29, 2008

BARTON, Betty Jo, 65, of Zephyrhills, Fla., loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and wife, was called home to the Lord at 10:05 p.m. February 25, 2008. Today, we rejoice in knowing that she has passed the barrier of time as we know it and is forever at home with the Savior she faithfully served for more than 65 years. On June 3, 1958, she was married to Coy Barton, who survives. Together, for more than 50 years, they experienced the changing scenes of life in the joyous and fruitful companionship, which the Lord had entrusted to them. For more than 38 years, her smile graced the Tampa Wholesale Produce Market, where she and Coy grew a successful and prosperous business. Every customer, vendor, employee or business associate could never forget "Miss Betty's" infectious smile, sharp mind and eye for the best melon in town. She is the youngest of eight children, and is survived by three brothers and three sisters. She was called "Mom" by four precious children, Brenda Singletary, Coye Barton, William Barton and Todd Barton. She was preceded in death by her son, Todd, and spoke of her excitement to see him again in heaven. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, by whom she was affectionately known as "Nanny." Nanny took great pride in her family. To everyone around she would make sure they knew that this was her child or her grandchild. For the past six years, she fought one health crisis after another with dignity, grace and faith that could never be measured or matched. She stood on God's word and exclaimed to everyone that "Through God All Things Are Possible!" She had been a walking testimony and the vessel to save numerous souls. Yes, we grieve, but with a joyous hope. We ask that you too rejoice with us as we celebrate the culmination and crowning achievement of her life - Nanny's homecoming! The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 29, at Hodges Funeral Home, 11441 U.S. Highway 301, Dade City, where services will take place at noon Saturday, March 1. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Tampa.
