WEIMER, Alan L., 55, of Tampa, lost his battle with cancer September 1, 2007. Born February 16, 1952, in Alexandria, Va., he resided in the Washington D.C., and San Francisco, Calif., areas before moving to the Tampa area in 1991 with his wife, Evelyn. He was preceded in death by his father, Saul Weimer; and his brother, Lawrence R. Weiner. Alan was a loving husband for 18 years to his dear wife, Evelyn Bless. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Weimer, 93, of Bethesda, Md.; his brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Cyla Weiner of Potomac, Md.; and his late brother's wife, Bette-Claire Weiner of Rockville, Md. He will forever be missed by his nephews and nieces, Lee Weiner of Tampa, Jessica Weiner of New York City, Lori Weiner Horkan of Rockville, Md., Craig Weimer of Millersville, Md., and Julie Weiner of Germantown, Md., who held a very special place in their uncle's heart. One of Alan's deepest passions was his students. He was a professor of entrepreneurship, management and business strategy in the John H. Sykes College of Business at The University of Tampa. He was also formerly the director of the MBA program and director of the Naimoli Institute of Business Strategy at The University of Tampa. Alan founded BizKidz, a program that provided leadership and business skills to at-risk and intercity youth. BizKidz worked with Steppin' Stone Farm, the Pace Center for Girls, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay. Alan was also a senior entrepreneurship teacher with the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). Before starting his teaching career, Alan was a manager and leader at Sprint and Oracle Corporations.
Alan's life was solely devoted to others: his loving wife and best friend Evelyn, their pets, his family, friends and students. Alan will truly be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who loved him and had the privilege of knowing him. A celebration of Alan's life will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Trinity Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, New Port Richey, Fla., (727) 376-7824. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. The memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Alan will be laid to rest at Gan Shalom Cemetery . In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to LifePath Hospice of Tampa, the National Children's Cancer Society, or to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
