BAER, Leonard H., 85, of Tampa, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006. Mr. Baer came to Tampa 11 years ago from New York. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during World War II. He was trained at Lowell Institute of Technology as a textile engineer but worked in sales and marketing in a variety of enterprises, from high tech to hospitality. He was a member of Congregation Beth Am and a volunteer for LifePath Hospice. Mr. Baer was best known for making jam, which he enjoyed giving to others, and was a collector of antique toasters. Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Doris; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Roberta "Robbie" Baer and Dr. Andre Benson of Tampa; sons and daughters-in-law, Mitchell and Sheryl, Fairfax, Va., Jonathan and Lois, Los Altos, Calif., and Sanford and Desiree, Cobleskill, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jason Baer, Matthew Baer, Eleanor Baer, Andrew Benson, Samantha Loucks Baer, Alexander Baer, William Benson and Daniel Loucks Baer; brother, Arthur Baer, East Meadow, N.Y.; and sister;,Shirley Demskey, Broomall, Pa. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at Congregation Beth Am, 2030 W. Fletcher Ave., Tampa. Rabbi Brian Zimmerman, Rabbi Richard Birnholz and cantorial soloist Vicki Silverman will officiate. Interment will follow at Gan Shalom Cemetery . In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele St., Tampa, FL 33609.
