CUESTA, Hortensia "Maria," 83, native of Tampa, went peacefully to eternal life on Monday, May 8, 2006. Born and raised in her beloved Ybor City, she was a dedicated mother, friend, worker and of the Catholic faith. She had a zeal for dancing and adored and loved animals; she worked as a cigar bander for Corral and Wodiska and Wodiska Cigar factories. She was a long and very proud outstanding member of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store International Union, Orden Caballero de la Luz and Centro Espanol de Tampa. Hortensia was predeceased by her husband, Emeterio A. Cuesta, Sr.; her parents, Manuel Castro and Adela Perez; siblings, Josefina Alvarez Castillo, Evelia Fernandez de Lara, and Albertina Fernandez. She is survived by her sons, Emeterio A. "Coach Pop" Cuesta, Jr. and wife, Sylvia Delgado Cuesta; Ruben J. Cuesta and wife, Cathy Herrera Cuesta; granddaughters, Susan Cuesta, Natalie Wakefield and husband, Bradley, Melissa Marie Cuesta and Stefanie Cuesta; her loving niece, Camelia Milian; her brother-in-law, Angelico Castillo; lifelong best friend, Isabel Gonzalez and her beloved cat "Mimi." The family will forever be profoundly grateful to her caretakers, (La familia estara eterna y profundamente agradecida a) Leida Garrido, Lidia Roman, Maura Gourrie, Juana Hernandez, Yvette Perez and Tila Figueredo, for the loyalty, dedication, devotion and love shown to our mother during her illness. And with special thanks and gratitude to the Lifepath Hospice Pearl team, especially, Maria, Ruth, Debbie, Sarah, and Chaplain Rich whose loving care, concern, and friendship to our Mom in her final months gave her so much comfort and happiness.
